Community Spaces
The Spaces Where Leaders Flourish
At LEAD LLC, we believe that community is essential. In both Allen and Dawson, we have extensive spaces which provide the opportunity for both studying and fellowship. Our student leaders often use these locations for programs, making these opportunities easy to engage with. Communal spaces are open 24-hours to students of Allen and Dawson Halls. Learn more about each one of these spaces below:
The Commons
This newly added 2-floored connector bridges the gap between the male (Allen) and female (Dawson) halls that comprise our living-learning community. This new space includes a ping-pong table, a TV, our Community Kitchen, various seating areas, study rooms, and even the LEAD Library on the third floor! The Commons tends to be the hub for LEAD events and programs, as well as socialization within the halls.
The Community Kitchen
One portion of the Commons is the Community Kitchen. Located on the second floor, this kitchen can be used by all residents of Allen and Dawson Halls. It includes two microwaves, an oven, a stovetop, a shared refrigerator and freezer, two ice machines, plenty of counter/island space, numerous outlets, and a large sink for dishwashing.
Allen Lobby
Allen Residence Hall, the male building of LEAD LLC, stretches across 8th Street with the front (lobby) door facing Speight Avenue. This newly renovated community room houses tables and chairs for studying, community-building furniture, a TV, a piano, and a pool table for residents' enjoyment.
Dawson Lobby
Dawson Residence Hall, the female building of LEAD LLC, continues on 8th Street with the front (lobby) door facing Baylor Avenue. This lobby has tables and chairs for studying, community-building furniture, a TV, a piano, and a ping-pong table for usage.
Dawson Seminar Room
This Seminar Room serves as a conference space for various LEAD constituents such as Professional Staff meetings, student-led committee meetings, and more! It can also be used as another group study space. Students and staff alike can enjoy the new meeting room technologies, charging outlets within the seminar table, and ample white board space.
The LRX
The Learning Resource Express (LRX) is the School of Education's extension of the Learning Resource Center (LRC) in the Mars McLean Science building! This room contains a table and chairs for studying, a 3D printing machine, paper cutting machines, laminating machines and their needed supplies, and other crafting necessities. Only School of Education majors and minors and students on leadership within our halls have access to this space.
Dawson Classroom
Students that live in LEAD LLC during their first year of college take either the Intro to Leadership (LDS 1301) or Intro to Education (TED 1312) course. Many of these classes are held in the Dawson Classroom which acts as the perfect bridge between "living" and "learning." Here, students engage in course content in their very own hall with their fellow residents! This room includes the newest classroom technology, movable seating and tables for up to 24 students, ample white board space, and a podium for instructor use.
The Reflection Room
Located in Dawson is the Reflection Room, a multi-purpose space for more intimate LEAD programs and the home of our LEAD Chapel course. This open space includes seating for up to 14 people, cabinet space that holds our community's Bibles for chapel-related purposes, and even a handwashing station toward the back of the room.
Dawson-Memorial Terrace
Located on the second floor of Dawson Residence Hall, the Dawson-Memorial Terrace is an outdoor space utilized for socializing and studying. This terrace connects our hall to Memorial Residence Hall, home to the women of the Honors Residential College (HRC). Students enjoy the numerous Adirondack chairs, other various metal tables and chair sets, and glowing string lighting hanging above and throughout the space.
Study Coves
Throughout Allen and Dawson hallways are study coves where individual students can spend more focused time on their studies.
