New Student Experience Courses

All new, first-time freshmen living in LEAD LLC must choose between two, 3-credit hour courses associated with LEAD LLC in the Fall semester. Both courses are excellent learning experiences. The two options are TED 1312: Introduction to Education and LDS 1301: Introduction to Leadership.

This shared academic experience builds community between residents in the hall while serving as a theoretical cornerstone for students' understanding and awareness of education in both formal and informal settings. Building from this foundation, students are more prepared to engage practically with leadership at Baylor and with their holistic Baylor experience.

Introduction to Leadership (LDS 1301) will focus on engaging students in different forms of leadership while exploring the multifaceted nature of leadership, including the development of a personal philosophy of leadership and meaningful discussions regarding the personal dynamics of leading a group and being a member.

Introduction to Education (TED 1312) will engage students in the importance of education in multiple forms. In addition to studying formal educational settings like the K-12 classroom, students will experience the value of informal educational opportunities such as museums and the zoo.

Both the Introduction to Education course (TED 1312) and the Introduction to Leadership (LDS 1301) courses equip students with the necessary knowledge to take up the responsibility to effect meaningful change in the world and prepare them for further studies of education and leadership.
